Registration Open: Now Enrolling for our 2010 Studio Art Classes for Homeschoolers Our studio art classes for homeschoolers are taught by SLHC Museum Educator Rebecca Lawrence with guest visiting artists. Course content is based on open interpretation of the Heritage Center's collection and exhibits, elements and principles of design, development of personal expression, and technique using traditional and non traditional art media. In addition, throughout each session, students are given opportunities for exhibition at the Heritage Center and can travel to local heritage sites to complete outdoor observational activities. Holiday Season Preparation Begins with the Christmas Putz!
Our holiday season begins this month as we start installing our Christmas Putz. Our collection of miniature figurines and various landscapes cover 6 large platforms in our gallery space. Over the next few weeks volunteers and staff will be setting up the miniature landscape. Do you remember setting up a miniature display around the holiday season? Visit our gallery while our Putz is on display through February 28th and tell us about your experience or email your story to rebecca@schwenkfelder.com Make Gingerbread Houses With Us on December 4th! Join us to make a gingerbread house with your family and friends on Friday, December 4th, from 3:00-6:00pm. The fee of $7.00 includes a cardboard base, graham crackers, pretzels, candies, and icing. The size of the house is limited to the 12" cardboard base provided. Only one house is permitted per person. Please register by November 27, 2009, by email at rebecca@schwenkfelder.com or by phone at (215) 679-3103. If you choose, your house may stay on display through December 15, 2009. German and Latin Classes: Announcing NEW Hours! To accommodate the busy schedules of our parents and students, this season students have the option of attending class 10:00am-11:30am or 1:30pm-3:00pm Wednesdays and 10:00am-11:30am or 1:30pm-3:00pm Fridays, completing a total of three hours of instruction per week. Courses run on a monthly basis, 8 sessions in total. $50.00 per participant per month. Courses are taught by Allen Viehmeyer, SLHC Associate Director of Research. German Reading Knowledge For Adults Monthly evening classes from 6-8pm are available for adults wanting to improve their reading knowledge of German. A textbook is required. Courses will be taught by Allen Viehmeyer, Associate Director of Research, on Thursday evenings from 6-8pm. $80.00 per participant. Congratulations to our summer camp student Nicoleena whose Katrina the Flood Fairy won second place in the Bloomsburg Fair (September 26 through October 3, Bloomsburg, Pa). Nicoleena made her fairy during our "My Own Fairy Tale" summer camp program with artist Stacy Clark this past June 2009. |
