Cotton in Pennsylvania German Life
Nine Patch Quilt Top
ca. 1840–1860; backed and quilted 1930-1940
Cotton
Bucks or Montgomery Counties
On loan by Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Ellors

An intriguing example of a mid 19th century Nine Patch quilt, the quilt top features a quirky appliqué border and a 16-patch block in one corner. The quilting style and the turquoise cotton back point to a finishing date most likely in the 1930s. The maker is unknown but the current owners have Schwenkfelder and Pennsylvania German roots.
