The Castle Church in Wittenberg where Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses on the church door in 1517. The lettering on the tower is Ein Feste Burg ist unser Gott - A might Fortress is our God.

In Halle we visited the Franckesche Stiftungen. Founded in 1698, it was home for orphans and poor children who received academic and vocational training.

Quedlinburg is one of a handful of German cities retaining its early modern character. A number of houses here date from the 1500s.
