Letterpress Printing

Before computers and printers, publications were designed and printed using metal type and a handpress. Learn to set type, arrange metal type in cases, and print using our Damon and Petes Favourite treadle printing press.

A Schwenkfelder Celebration

September 24th is Gedächtnestag! Celebrate the 274th anniversary of the 1734 landing of the Schwenkfelders and participate in the oldest continually celebrated day of thanksgiving in the United States. A meal of bread and apple butter will be served.

Learn how pinballs and other sewing accessories such as wallets and pocketbooks were used in the 17th and 18th centuries. Take on the feat of making your own embroidered pinball or make your own pocketbook.

Dollhouse Quilts

Take a closer look at the Margaret Shelly Alcott collection of dolls and doll furniture now on display at the Heritage Center. Inspired by the collection, we'll make a small embroidered bedspread for your miniature collection at home.

Garlands, Paper Cuttings and Tree Decorations

Learn various Pa German traditions of tree decoration across the centuries, including hanging baked goods. Make a variety of tree decorations out of papercuttings, cookie molds, nuts, German folded stars, and sample traditional Springerle cookies!
